How to Compare 成本s
As you start to receive financial aid offers from the colleges where you’ve been accepted, it’s important to carefully review and compare costs and the financial aid offers you receive. This will ensure that you know how much you’ll actually pay for your education.
One of the biggest mistakes students make when reviewing their offer letters is assuming that the biggest scholarship awarded offers the best deal. Financial aid eligibility varies from school to school, so it helps to compare your financial aid offers and costs by organizing the information into a worksheet. Below are examples of costs of attendance, financial aid offers, 净成本是多少, which is what you would actually pay:
|成本 of Attendance||Grants/奖学金s||净价||Student Loan Eligibility||净成本|
Helpful Steps to Finding Out How Much You’ll Pay
Determine the cost of attendance for each school Be sure to include tuition and fees, 食宿, 书籍及用品, 运输, 停车 and miscellaneous expenses. Contact the college’s financial aid office if the cost of attendance is not listed on your offer letter or online.
Subtract your grants/scholarships Grants and scholarships do not have to be paid back, so subtract the amount of grants/scholarships a college offered you from the college’s cost of attendance. 的 remaining amount is your net price, or out-of-pocket cost. *
Consider your student loans If you plan to use the student loans offered to you, subtract the student loans from the net price/out-of-pocket cost. That will give you your bottom line net cost for each school.
比较净成本 When choosing where to go to college, you will want to consider more than just cost, but knowing the affordability of each school can help you make an informed decision.
*Work Study awards are not considered in this calculation, since students are paid hourly for the actual hours worked and can be used for miscellaneous expenses.
To help you better plan for your college costs, don’t forget to consider expenses like 书籍及用品, 停车, and personal expenses. At KSC, we budget $2,150 annually for these costs.
Schedule an appointment with a financial aid counselor who can help you complete your FAFSA.
